Repairs and servicing

How much is a garage door callout?

A standard UK garage door call-out fee is £40–£80, which usually covers the visit and diagnosis before any repair work is quoted. Evening, weekend or emergency out-of-hours call-outs typically add a further £50–£150 on top of the standard fee.

What the call-out fee covers

The call-out fee generally covers the engineer travelling to your property and diagnosing the fault. Any repair work needed beyond that — a spring, cable, photocell or track fix — is then quoted separately, and some companies deduct the call-out fee from the repair cost if you go ahead with the work.

Why out-of-hours costs more

A door stuck open overnight is a security risk, and a door stuck shut can trap a vehicle in or out, so many UK garage door companies offer an emergency out-of-hours service at a premium over their standard daytime rate to cover the same-day or same-night response.

Questions people ask

Is the call-out fee refunded if I don't go ahead with the repair?
This varies by company. Some UK engineers charge the call-out fee regardless of outcome as payment for the diagnostic visit; others waive or deduct it if you accept the quoted repair on the spot. Ask before booking.
Does the call-out fee include parts?
No — the call-out fee covers the visit and diagnosis only. Any parts and additional labour for the actual repair, such as a spring or cable, are quoted and charged on top.
Is a call-out cheaper if I book during the day?
Yes, generally. A standard daytime call-out in normal working hours is cheaper than an evening, weekend or genuine emergency visit, which typically carries the £50–£150 out-of-hours surcharge.
