55mm vs 77mm roller door slats: what the difference means

A 55mm roller garage door slat is the standard domestic gauge in the UK, giving adequate strength and insulation for typical single and double garages. A 77mm slat is a heavier-duty profile used on taller openings, wider doors or where extra strength and thermal performance are wanted, at added weight and cost that also raises the torque needed from the operator.

Insulation and thermal performance

Insulated roller curtains — where the slat is a twin-wall or foam-filled aluminium extrusion rather than solid steel — perform better in the 77mm profile simply because there is more depth in the slat to hold insulating foam.
