Canopy and retractable gear explained
Garador’s up-and-over range comes with two types of gear. Canopy gear has the spring mechanism on the head of the frame. Because of this, only part of the door swings outward as it opens. Retractable gear works differently: the door slides fully back under the ceiling, on tracks running the depth of the garage.
Canopy gear suits narrower single openings. Retractable gear is the standard choice for wider doors and doubles, since it’s usually easier to automate with an operator. Both gear types need enough headroom in the garage for the tracks or spring mechanism to work well.
Sectional and side-hinged alternatives
Alongside up-and-over doors, Garador makes insulated sectional doors and side-hinged doors finished to look like timber. Sectional doors give better heat performance and don’t swing outward. This suits a short drive, since a swinging door could block a parked car. Buyers mainly choose side-hinged doors for their traditional coach-door look.
