Extension spring

An extension spring is a coiled spring mounted along each side track that stretches to store energy as the door closes, most often used on retractable-gear up-and-over doors.

Extension springs run parallel to the side tracks rather than sitting above the opening, and are typically paired with safety cables to contain the spring if it fails. Spring replacement in the UK typically costs £150–£350 for a pair.
