Torsion spring

A torsion spring is a coiled spring mounted horizontally above the door opening that twists to store energy as the door closes, releasing it to help lift the door when opened.

Torsion springs are found on both canopy and retractable gear configurations in the UK and on sectional door headers. They store significant energy and should only be adjusted or replaced by a qualified engineer.
